IVADO receives $500,000 in funding under the 2030 Canadian International Development Scholarships Program

Montreal, November 26, 2024 – IVADO is proud to announce it has secured $500,000 in funding over four years through the 2030 Canadian International Development Scholarships Program. This financial support will enable IVADO to strengthen its initiatives in artificial intelligence training and research by welcoming four cohorts of students from Africa and Haiti. Through strategic partnerships with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) and the Institute of Science, Technology, and Advanced Studies of Haiti (ISTEAH), IVADO is committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities to promising talent.

The 2030 Canadian International Development Scholarships Program (CIDSP 2030) aims to foster social and economic development in 26 countries across the Francophonie and the Commonwealth. Funded by Global Affairs Canada, the program provides participants with inclusive, high-quality education as well as technical and professional training. Artificial intelligence is one of the program’s priority fields of study, recognized for its high impact potential in achieving sustainable development goals.

With this funding, IVADO seeks to consolidate its existing partnerships (IVADO-AIMS and IVADO-ISTEAH), broaden its research themes, and prioritize cross-sectoral societal challenges (health, environment, governance, ethics, diversity). These efforts align with IVADO’s program for robust, reasoning, and responsible AI (R³AI) and the priorities of African and Haitian stakeholders. The initiative will facilitate short-term research stays (<4 months) in high-caliber scientific teams for about ten African and Haitian recipients per year across IVADO’s five partner universities (Université de Montréal, Université Laval, HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, and McGill University). IVADO remains steadfast in its mission to promote inclusivity, gender equality, and enhanced access to education and training, preparing the next generation of AI leaders.
