Call for Applications – IVADO Scientific Director
Artificial intelligence is transforming our world at an unprecedented pace. From fundamental research to industrial applications, it is redefining the way we innovate, collaborate and create value for society.
In this context, IVADO is looking for a strong Scientific Director to lead its R3AI scientific vision, for the development and adoption of robust, reasoning and responsible AI, an initiative supported by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.
In collaboration with the Executive Board, scientific co-directors and operational departments, the Scientific Director’s mandate will be to lead large-scale research initiatives, stimulate interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaborations, and strengthen IVADO’s role on the national and international scientific scene.
About IVADO
IVADO is an interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral research, training and knowledge mobilization consortium whose mission is to develop and promote a robust, reasoning and responsible AI. Led by Université de Montréal with four university partners (Polytechnique Montréal, HEC Montréal, Université Laval and McGill University), IVADO brings together research centres, government bodies and industry members to co-build ambitious cross-sectoral initiatives with the goal of fostering a paradigm shift for AI and its adoption.
Responsibilities
- Develop, embody and contribute to the implementation of IVADO’s scientific vision in collaboration with general management, scientific co-directors and operational departments.
- Apply for grants and participate in obtaining research funding.
- Stimulate and support AI research initiatives by facilitating interactions between researchers, students and industrial partners, in conjunction with the scientific co-directors.
- Constantly promote scientific excellence by working in synergy with training, innovation and technology transfer clusters to maximize the impact of IVADO-supported projects.
- Represent IVADO within the local and international scientific community, and generate international scientific collaborations.
- Lead the scientific committee and sit on the consortium’s governing bodies.
Qualifications
- Full or associate professor at Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, Université Laval or McGill University.
- International scientific leadership in the field of artificial intelligence and its applications, recognized for major contributions to the field.
- Proven experience in leading ambitious research projects and coordinating interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to mobilize and foster collaboration and innovation, stimulate academic and industrial synergies, and encourage the emergence of promising projects within a dynamic and evolving ecosystem.
- Ability to define, articulate and embody a bold vision while anticipating emerging trends and guiding the consortium towards structuring scientific and technological advances.
- Excellent communication, leadership and project management skills.
Selection process
A selection committee, including representatives from the five partner universities, three people from member organizations and IVADO’s CEO, will evaluate the applications and make a recommendation to IVADO’s Board of Directors, which will approve the submitted application.
Allocation of time and duration of contract
This position is intended to be compatible with the pursuit of teaching and research activities. It is strongly recommended that the candidate discuss this with his/her department head and the dean of his/her faculty. The initial term of office is four years and is renewable.
