Luc Vinet renewed as IVADO CEO

Montreal, June 26, 2025 – IVADO is pleased to announce the renewal of Luc Vinet’s term as CEO for an additional year. Following a recommendation by the Executive Committee, Mr. Vinet has agreed to continue in his role through May 31, 2026.

Aisenstadt Professor in the Department of Physics at Université de Montréal and IVADO’s CEO since August 2021, Luc Vinet has built a distinguished career in mathematics, theoretical physics and the executive leadership of academic institutions. He previously served as Rector of Université de Montréal (2005-2010), Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic) at McGill University (1999-2005), and twice Director of the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM). In addition to being one of the founding members of Mitacs, Canada’s most recognized network of Centres of Excellence, he has played a key role in the creation of numerous other research networks in Quebec and Canada, and has consistently worked to bridge academia and industry.

Recipient of the Prix Armand-Frappier (2009), Prix CAP-CRM (2012), Officer of the National Order of Québec (2017) and Member of the Order of Canada (2021), he is the author of over 400 scientific publications. His intellectual and institutional leadership contributes directly to IVADO’s positioning as a pillar of responsible AI and innovation in Quebec, Canada, and internationally.

Under his leadership, IVADO has achieved significant momentum, emerging as a leading reference in responsible AI. Among its major milestones, the organization secured a prestigious Canada First Research Excellence Fund grant for the IAR3 project, which he co-created with Yoshua Bengio.

This renewal reflects a commitment to strategic continuity as IVADO advances major initiatives in artificial intelligence through research, training, technology transfer, and knowledge mobilization.
