IVADO Announces Two Funding Programs to Accelerate AI-Powered Materials Discovery, in Partnership with the Acceleration Consortium and the Institut Courtois

Montreal, June 26, 2025 – IVADO is pleased to announce the launch of two new funding opportunities aimed at fostering interdisciplinary research to advance the discovery of novel materials and molecules using the power of artificial intelligence (AI). These initiatives are part of a strategic collaboration with two leading partners: the Acceleration Consortium (University of Toronto) and the Institut Courtois (Université de Montréal).

Accelerate Grant Program – Acceleration Consortium (University of Toronto)

The Acceleration Consortium (AC), in partnership with IVADO and the Institut Courtois, invites the scientific community to submit research proposals focused on automation and AI for materials and molecule discovery. The program features two streams: Seed Funding and Moonshot Projects.

The Seed Funding stream provides grants of up to $ 250,000 over two years to support new collaborations between IVADO and AC in the field of molecule discovery. The Moonshot stream targets riskier, high-reward projects and aims to promote new collaborations between AC, the Institut Courtois, and IVADO in materials science. Funding is up to $ 400,000 over two years.

Institut Courtois Exploratory Projects Program (Université de Montréal)

IVADO is partnering with the Institut Courtois to support exploratory research jointly conducted by researchers in materials science and artificial intelligence. This program is part of the activities of the Materials and Molecules research group (IVADO’s Research Regroupement 6) and must align with its objectives.

Selected projects will receive up to $ 200,000 over two years, with an additional $ 25,000 per year provided through IVADO’s complementary contribution. The initiative aims to lay the groundwork for transformative discoveries in material design while strengthening ties between the AI research community and the Institut Courtois.

The selection process involves two stages: first, the submission of a notice of intent by August 4, 2025, followed by a full application due on November 17, 2025.

These programs are open to researchers affiliated with IVADO’s member institutions: Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, McGill University, and Université Laval.

Details on application procedures, eligibility criteria, and deadlines are available on the respective partners’ websites:
