IVADO Contributes to Reference Documents Released by the Ministry of Higher Education on the Ethical Integration of AI in Higher Education
Montréal, August 19, 2025 – As part of the work of the National Consultation Body on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education, IVADO had the privilege of coordinating and drafting a practical reference guide to support universities and colleges in the integration and use of AI.
Titled “Responsible Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education Institutions: Benchmarks and Best Practices – Practical Guide 2025”, the guide complements the reference framework unveiled by Ms. Pascale Déry, Minister of Higher Education. It provides institutions with a practical approach and concrete examples to help them establish their AI governance.
IVADO contributed its expertise in advanced research and AI training, as well as its experience collaborating across sectors, to inform discussions on pedagogical, ethical, and organizational challenges related to AI. The guide also benefited from contributions by experts from Mila and a consultative committee of specialists from the Université de Montréal and UQAM, drawing on best practices from Québec and beyond.
Designed as a roadmap rather than a formal framework, the guide offers common benchmarks and practical tools for institutions to structure AI governance and foster students’ digital skills. It aims to help the higher education network navigate this new reality and make informed decisions while respecting institutional autonomy.
For IVADO, this collaboration underscores its mission to advance responsible AI that benefits society, and highlights the value of sharing knowledge and best practices to provide Québec’s educational institutions with clear, context-appropriate guidance.
