Canada-France partnership to support research on artificial intelligence

The rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence (AI) has become a key focus for much of Canada’s scientific community and is a priority area identified by the Canada-France Joint Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation.

IVADO is proud to announce, in partnership with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), a total of $3,292,500 in funding to support 10 collaborative research projects on AI with the French National Research Agency (ANR).

These projects leverage the unique expertise and resources of both Canadian and French research ecosystems, supporting collaborative multi- and interdisciplinary research projects addressing generative AI and the security and safety of embedded AI.

IVADO will provide an additional $20,000 per year for three years to the following five recipients to support their innovative work:

  • Ioannou, Yani (University of Calgary) – Generative modeling, Heavy tails, Outliers, Sparse Training.
  • Bellec, Lune (Université de Montréal) – Adaptation de domaine pour l’intégration de données neuronales.
  • Barakat, Khaled (University of Alberta) – CLAUD-IA: A Generative AI-Based Precision Medicine Framework for Claudin-Targeted Gastrointestinal Cancer Therapy.
  • Gidel, Gauthier (Université de Montréal) – Leveraging Synthetic Data from Generative Models
  • Cheung, Jackie (McGill University) – REGARD: Robust Evaluation of Generative AI in Real-World Environments.

“This Canada-France partnership perfectly illustrates the importance of international collaboration in AI and highlights IVADO’s key role in supporting cutting-edge research in Canada,” emphasizes Guillaume Chicoisne, Interim Director of Research Support at IVADO.
