Tech3Lab and IVADO launch professional training program “Professional Practice in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Era”
Montreal, January 21, 2026 – IVADO and HEC Montréal’s Tech3Lab are proud to announce the launch of the free training program “Professional Practice in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Era” funded by the Government of Canada as part of the Future Skills program. Rather than prescribing technological uses, this innovative initiative aims above all to strengthen professional judgment in the age of AI and consolidate the active, critical, and responsible role of individuals in their professional decisions.
Artificial intelligence has become established more quickly than expected in knowledge-based professions, profoundly transforming intellectual occupations without professionals being fully prepared. In light of this observation, the project responds to an urgent need: to develop AI literacy that enables people to understand this technology, grasp its possibilities and limitations, and integrate it responsibly into their professional practice.
Training for responsible use of AI
Unlike many training courses focused on adopting tools, “Professional Practice in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Era” does not aim to prescribe specific technological uses for each profession. Instead, it seeks to develop a fundamental understanding of AI, how it works, its limitations, and the ethical issues it raises, so that professionals can exercise informed and responsible judgment, regardless of the tools they choose to use.
The training covers cross-cutting principles applicable to all professions. However, it draws on concrete examples from the real-life experiences of engineers, lawyers, accountants, and human resources advisors. This approach anchors the discussion in specific professional contexts while offering learning opportunities that are relevant to everyone.
Training tailored to the professional world
Interactive and accessible online, the documentary series offers a four-part thematic course designed to be followed flexibly according to the needs of each professional:
- Part 1: Professional conduct and responsibility – Explore what it means to be professional in the age of AI and maintain your professional judgment.
- Part 2: Understanding to make better choices – Understanding how AI models work, their biases, and their limitations.
- Part 3: Using AI responsibly – Integrating AI into your practice while respecting ethics and professional conduct.
- Part 4: Rethinking professional practices – Reflecting on the collective impacts and future of the professions.
The program includes video clips, introspective questions, and a self-assessment tool, allowing each participant to progress at their own pace and receive recommendations tailored to their situation.
A major cross-sector collaboration
This strategic collaboration will reach hundreds of thousands of professionals in Quebec and Canada.
The training will be available free of charge starting January 21, 2026, on the following website: https://certification-ai.hec.ca/
“This initiative is part of IVADO’s mission to contribute to the development and deployment of human-centered AI, while promoting the acquisition by workers, particularly professionals, of the skills necessary for its responsible and effective use in the workplace.”

“We are very proud to have brought together more than 30 experts from the IVADO ecosystem for this training documentary. — Pierre-Majorique Léger, Full Professor of Information Technology at HEC Montréal
