Scientific co-direction (interim) – Scientific activities and international

IVADO, an interdisciplinary and cross-sector consortium for research, training and knowledge mobilization in artificial intelligence, is seeking to appoint an interim Scientific Co-Director. The incumbent will provide essential leadership in the direction and management of scientific activities associated with R3AI, as well as in the development of IVADO’s international strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the CEO, Deputy CEO, Scientific Director and other Scientific Co-Directors to advance IVADO’s scientific vision, and participate in IVADO management meetings and discussions.
  • Work closely with the IVADO Special Advisor to the Scientific Activities to ensure and monitor the deployment of IVADO’s scientific activities program, including the organization of international scientific events, conferences and symposia.
  • Develop and lead the international strategy of IVADO and the R3AI program by identifying and establishing collaborations with world-renowned research institutions.
  • Maintain collaborations with research institutes and organizations in Canada and abroad to foster knowledge exchange and scientific advances.
  • Actively participate in defining the scientific vision for R3AI-related activities and contribute to their realization.
  • Contribute to the leadership and co-chairmanship of the IVADO Scientific Committee to provide advice and guidance to IVADO staff on the progress and development of scientific activities.

Qualifications

  • Full or associate professor at Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, Université Laval or McGill.
  • Recognized expertise in the general field of artificial intelligence and its applications.
  • Proven experience in planning, organizing and managing scientific events.
  • Ability to operationalize international partnerships and promote scientific collaboration.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and project management skills.
  • Ability to mobilize academic members and foster collaboration.

Time commitment and term of office

This position is intended to be compatible with the pursuit of teaching and research activities. It is strongly recommended that the candidate discuss this with her/his department head and the Dean of her/his Faculty.

The interim mandate is for a period of 10 months. The appointment will be made by the IVADO Executive Committee.
