Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin Appointed CEO of IVADO

Montréal, May 26, 2026 – IVADO, consortium in artificial intelligence, announces the appointment of Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin as Chief Executive Officer. Her four-year mandate will begin on September 1, 2026.

President and Chief Executive Officer of CIRANO since 2016 and Full Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin is a recognized researcher whose recent work focuses on the responsible development and adoption of AI, the impacts of AI on work, and the social acceptability of data sharing in AI systems. She has distinguished herself through a sustained contribution to interdisciplinary research and the transfer of knowledge to public and private decision-makers.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I will soon be joining IVADO as Chief Executive Officer. The consortium occupies a unique position in the AI ecosystem — at the intersection of excellence in research, knowledge transfer, and societal engagement. As AI profoundly reshapes our models of work and innovation, IVADO must play a leading role in this transformation. I look forward to collaborating with IVADO’s researchers, teams, and partners to write the next chapter of this exceptional collective journey.” – Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin.

A Committed leadership

Holder of a master’s degree in applied mathematics from Aix-Marseille University and a doctorate in management science (specializing in risk management and insurance) from the École normale supérieure de Cachan, her research interests focus on risk management and decision-making in various contexts of risk and uncertainty, as well as the public policies implemented in response. Her research combines economic analysis, cost-benefit analysis, survey data analysis, and unstructured big data analysis.

Her work notably sheds light on the levers that enable research knowledge to be transformed into concrete value for organizations and the economy. Co-founder of OBVIA and a contributor to the development of the Montréal Declaration for a Responsible Development of AI, she participated in the collective reflection on AI governance led by the Conseil de l’innovation du Québec, which published the report Prêt pour l’IA. A member of the Commission de l’éthique en science et en technologie du Québec since 2020, she also lends her expertise to international organizations, including UNESCO and the RFICS, the International Francophone Network for Scientific Advice. Her career at the intersection of research, management, and public engagement aligns naturally with IVADO’s mission.

As Chief Executive Officer, she will be responsible for guiding IVADO’s strategic vision, strengthening its academic and industrial partnerships, and advancing the deployment of R3AI.

Her appointment is the result of a rigorous selection process conducted by IVADO’s executive committee, comprised of representatives from the consortium’s partner universities.

“We are delighted to welcome a researcher and executive of Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin’s calibre. Her deep expertise in areas that are essential to the development of AI, her engagement with the research community in Québec and internationally, and the extensive network of collaborators she has built over the years will be invaluable assets in consolidating IVADO’s place in the AI ecosystem — locally, nationally, and internationally.” – Vincent Poitout, Vice-Rector, Research and Innovation, Université de Montréal.

“It is with great pride that I pass the torch to Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin. What we have built together since the launch of R3AI has profoundly transformed IVADO. She inherits an organization driven by collective excellence and the conviction that we can make a real difference — for science, for organizations, and for society. Having collaborated with Nathalie on several occasions, I am convinced that she will steer this extraordinary vehicle that is IVADO toward new heights.” – Luc Vinet, Chief Executive Officer of IVADO.

“IVADO is entering a new era, built on a research ecosystem that now resonates far beyond our borders. Nathalie’s background, both as a researcher and as President and CEO of CIRANO, will allow us to continue advancing AI research and further strengthen our presence on the national and international stage. Welcome to her, and a heartfelt thank you to Luc Vinet for his remarkable leadership over the past five years.” – Aaron Courville, Scientific Director of IVADO.

“Nathalie is widely respected for her leadership in AI: her expertise and her career at Polytechnique Montréal and CIRANO make her the ideal person to lead our organization into its next phase of development. I also want to thank Luc Vinet for his unwavering commitment to IVADO’s mission. This new chapter builds on a remarkable momentum — and we approach it with great enthusiasm.” – Mélanie Bosc, Associate Chief Executive Officer.
