Four Major Political Parties in Quebec Endorse IVADO and CEIMIA’s Code of Conduct for the Responsible Use of AI in Politics
Montreal, August 24, 2026 — As Quebec’s October 5th general election approaches, four political parties represented in the National Assembly officially endorsed today the Code of Conduct for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Politics, developed by IVADO and CEIMIA.
By endorsing the Code, the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ), the Parti Québécois (PQ), and Québec solidaire (QS) commit to adopting transparent and responsible practices in the use of AI, including refraining from using these technologies to produce or disseminate misleading content likely to mislead voters.
The Code calls on political parties to commit to four key principles:
- Transparency
- Responsible use
- Security and governance
- Awareness and prevention
Developed by IVADO and CEIMIA under the direction of Catherine Régis (IVADO, Université de Montréal), Christian Gagné (IID, Université Laval), and Marc-Antoine Dilhac (Université de Montréal), the Code aims to preserve the integrity of information, combat disinformation and deepfakes, and strengthen public trust in the electoral process and democratic institutions.
To support its implementation, IVADO and CEIMIA provide training and awareness-raising activities for party teams, make practical tools available to political parties, such as Université Laval’s guide on labeling the use of AI, and will continue their work to support stakeholders in addressing issues related to AI and democracy.
