Six Projects Selected for The 2026 Franco-Quebec exchange semesters in artificial intelligence, Organized by IVADO and INRIA

Montreal, September 14 – IVADO and INRIA are pleased to announce the six research projects selected as part of the Franco-Quebec exchange semesters in artificial intelligence for the year 2026: These projects were chosen for their ability to strengthen ties between the French and Quebec research ecosystems in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), and are aligned with the R3AI vision (robust, reasoning, and responsible AI). 

This program provides financial support for research stays lasting 2 to 5 weeks, enabling researchers to spend time in France or Quebec to continue or initiate an a Franco-Quebec scientific collaboration. This second exchange semester focused on AI was launched in early March, following the success of the first edition in 2025. 

A closing event is also planned in France between mid-November and mid-December to present the outcomes of the initiative for the supported Franco-Quebec projects and to present them with funding opportunities for the future. 

The research stays projects selected under the 2026 call by IVADO (mobility to France) are:

  1. Gaëlle Falcon (Laval University) and Kévin Carillo (TBS Education) – From Explanation to Action: A Configurational Approach to Operationalizing the Effective Integration of EDI in AI Development.
  2. Kyle Conway (University of Ottawa) and Serena Villata (Université Côte d’Azur, CNRS Research Director, Scientific Director of 3IA Côte d’Azur) – Justin Trudeau’s Rhetorical Strategies, 2015–2024: An Argument Mining Approach.
     
  3.  François Leduc-Primeau (Polytechnique Montréal) and Vincent Gripon (IMT Atlantique) – Certified Low-Energy Embedded Generative AI. 

The research projects selected under INRIA’s 2026 call (mobility to Quebec) are: 

  1. Reuben Dorent (INRIA Paris, PR[AI]RIE-PSAI) and Hervé Lombaert (Polytechnique Montréal) – Learning Patient-Specific Shape Constraints for Intraoperative Ultrasound for Brain Tumor Surgery.
     
  2. Sylvain Délouvée (University of Rennes 2 – LP3C, SequoIA) and Colette BRIN (Laval University, International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI – OBVIA, IVADO) – Between Trust and Distrust: Social Representations of AI and Perceptions of Media Institutions in the Age of Disinformation.
  3.  Clément Mabi (INRIA Rennes, Fabrique de pensée critique Laboratory) and Steve Jacob (Laval University, International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI – OBVIA) – CriticAL: Preparing a Comparative Study on the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Public Policy (France–Quebec).
