Due to their complexity, as well as the risks and challenges they raise, AI systems call for multi-, inter-, and even transdisciplinary approaches that go beyond the sole framework of the social sciences and humanities. These forms of collaboration vary significantly depending on the methods and objectives pursued, ranging from occasional disciplinary insights to fully integrated research projects.
This thematic semester provides an opportunity to open space for such perspectives, which are essential to understanding the multiple dimensions of AI governance. However, these collaborations are not without challenges: methodological obstacles, differences in language and conceptual frameworks, as well as coordination difficulties. These issues call for reflection on the conditions and levers needed to foster meaningful dialogue across disciplines.
In this context, this one-day conference will offer a valuable opportunity to examine our practices, share feedback and experiences, and formulate concrete recommendations to strengthen interdisciplinarity. It will also provide an opportunity to highlight relevant scientific initiatives, such as the Glossary of Misunderstandings in Interdisciplinarity developed by the CNRS Mission for Transversal and Interdisciplinary Initiatives (MITI), and to explore ways to further contribute to and expand such efforts.
This activity is part of the Thematic Semester « The Governance of AI », organized under the partnership between IVADO and the centre AI for science, science for AI (AISSAI)
Registration opens on June 14, 2026.
