Summary

Canada is recognized globally for its artificial intelligence (AI) research, but struggles to translate this strength into successful new businesses. This IVADO report identifies three major obstacles: a weak entrepreneurial spirit in academia, insufficient domestic demand, and limited access to financing. To address these challenges, it recommends fostering entrepreneurship at the university level, streamlining public procurement processes, and adjusting tax policies. The goal: with concerted support from universities, governments, and industry, to make Canada an innovative and competitive nation in the global AI economy.
