This Chair’s vision is to incorporate expertise from the fields of mathematics, statistics and IT along with the knowledge and skills of specialists generating data in those fields, into a single research program. The Chair’s objectives are built on this multidisciplinary approach, which lends itself to production of high-quality methodological tools that are adapted to specific issues, and enabling proper interpretation of results.

“The vision of the FRQ-IVADO Chair in Data Science is to incorporate expertise from the fields of mathematics, statistics and IT along with the knowledge and skills of specialists generating data in those fields, into a single research program. To generate fresh ideas and approach problems from a different perspective, it is crucial that this scientific diversity also be reflected in diversity among the research team. Fostering that diversity is among of the Chair’s duties, and this must include recruiting students from different backgrounds who will train the researchers of tomorrow.”
