IVADO strengthens its international partnerships in Seoul

From May 1st to May 3rd, 2024, a delegation led by IVADO and organized with the support of the Quebec Office in Seoul, participated in the prestigious AI Expo Korea. The delegation included professors from Université de Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, Université Laval and McGill University, along with three partner startups (Baüne, Maket, and PhonIA). In addition to participating in this significant event within the global AI ecosystem, IVADO held several meaningful meetings and signed agreements with key academic and entrepreneurial players in Seoul.

New agreements formalized between IVADO and its Korean academic partners

The renowned Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) and its KAIST AI School have signed a strategic partnership agreement with IVADO. This agreement aims to strengthen academic and professional exchanges between South Korea and Quebec through IVADO and in collaboration with Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal. Specifically, this agreement will enhance AI training and talent exchange, particularly by promoting internships and research stays in both Korea and Quebec.

Discussions have also been initiated between IVADO and the Artificial Intelligence Institute (AIIS) of the prestigious Seoul National University. These discussions are expected to soon result in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will facilitate the organization of research activities aligned with the themes of the R3AI project, aimed at developing responsible, reasoning, and robust AI.

Start of collaboration with the Korea AI Association and the Seoul AI Hub

IVADO and the Korea AI Association, which supports organizations and private companies in Korea in integrating artificial intelligence into their sectors, have signed a memorandum of understanding. The objective of this agreement is to develop new connections in technology transfer, particularly in the fields of supply chain, operational research, transportation, and optimization.

The Seoul AI Hub, a central hub of AI innovation in the South Korean capital, will also strengthen its collaboration with the consortium by developing ties between the Quebec research community and Korean companies. Additionally, this collaboration will allow startups from IVADO’s programs to gain visibility and expand their presence in South Korea.

IVADO puts the spotlight on Quebec entrepreneurship in Korea

The participation of the delegation in these exchanges and at AI Expo Korea at the IVADO booth allowed three startups — Baüne, Maket and PhonIA — to benefit from this mission by making valuable contacts, exploring new markets, and presenting their innovations to an international audience. These exchanges, set to strengthen with the signing of various partnerships, will enhance the positioning of Quebec entrepreneurship in Asia and on the international stage.

This Korean mission is just the beginning, and IVADO plans to multiply similar initiatives to promote Quebec excellence in artificial intelligence on a global scale.
